Plan a Visit

Many churches say, “All Are Welcome,” but there is often a catch. Perhaps their subtext is ‘You are welcome to come and be judged and expected to assimilate.’ At MCC, we actively practice celebrating each other for our differences. Our culture is one of mutual respect.

Every Sunday, we meet for a one-hour worship service starting at 11:30am. Coffee, tea, sodas, and treats are available before, during, and after service. We meet ‘cafe´style,’ so we sit at round tables for a relaxed environment. Seats are also available away from tables if you feel more comfortable there.

When you enter the Wesley Club doors on 15th Ave., you will notice that it is a student space. (If you need access without stairs, press the doorbell at the bottom of the stairs and we will take you around the building to the elevator). We are not affiliated with the student organization; we share the space, but we definitely support each other’s missions. It is a fully LGBTQ+ affirming space. You may sign in and make a sticky name tag if you like. Regular attenders wear name tags with pronouns to help visitors feel more at home.

At the end of the hall, the meeting space is on the right and a gender-neutral, single-person bathroom is on the left. Make yourself at home in the meeting space. Someone is sure to give you a warm welcome. Our services usually start with just a handful of people in-person, with others trickling in after. We do not use paper bulletins; all parts of the service are projected.

Our services consist of hymns and spiritual songs sung together, times for prayer and affirmation, scriptures read aloud, and a talk/message/sermon/homily given by Pastor Brian, Student Pastor Megan, or guest preachers. All messages are affirming of human dignity and do not shame us for who we are. All of our services include Holy Communion/Eucharist. All are truly welcome to participate in Communion. Our servers dip a wafer into grape juice and place it in your mouth or hands. They then say a blessing over you if you like. We do not pressure anyone to participate in Communion, so feel free to not receive.

After the service, many people choose to stay and enjoy beverages and snacks over conversation. It’s a great time to socialize and meet people. We do not push religion on anyone, so these conversations are not about evangelizing or proselytizing. We simply seek to connect with one another to build community.

If you have any questions about your visit not answered here, please contact us by email or phone. We look forward to meeting you!

Who We Are

ECMCCS has a 53-year history of being Seattle’s queerest spiritual home. Thousands of folx have come into community with us over these five decades in search of a place where they can be fully themselves and seek the sacred without judgment.

We are fully progressive in our spiritual journeys, following the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, as found in the canonical gospels of the bible, as well as in other sources outside of the canon. We do not affirm any bible as inerrant or infallible. We take historical-critical biblical scholarship seriously, meaning that we read all scriptures in the context in which they were written.

We find deep meaning in allegorical readings of the scriptures. We also read the scriptures through the lenses of Queer, Womanist, POC Liberation, Post-Colonial, and like theologies. Our understanding of the Divine is also informed by New Thought / Metaphysical teachings.

ECMCCS is a place to heal from religious trauma caused by congregations and denominations that deny the truth, humanity, and dignity of LGBTQ+ folx and other marginalized peoples. We recognize the difficult process of deconstructing harmful religion, and we seek to help one another through it. If you are actively deconstructing or seeking to deconstruct, ECMCCS is a safe space to do so without judgment- really! We have no hidden agenda to make you adhere to any dogma. Our only aim is to help remove blocks to the awareness of Love’s presence. Check out our Deconstruction/Reconstruction Program HERE.

If there is any salvation, it is in being saved from loneliness, degradation, and despair. If there is any meaning in Christ, it is in the way he lived, his solidarity with us in our sufferings, and in our hope for a more just and peaceful world. Come ‘try us on for size’ in-person and online. You are truly and fully welcome just as you are, no strings attached!
